Bending of the reinforcement bars is made by strict rules which will keep the concrete safe from cracks. The minimum diameter Øm (mandrel diameter) to which a bar can be bent, shall be such to avoid bending cracks to the bar. Also it should ensure the integrity of concrete inside the bent of the bar where large forces appear.
